Juniors:
Tuesdays from 4.00pm to approximately 5.00pm. Meet inside
the Caledonian Stadium opposite the start line (beneath the
Control Room).
Format for 3 August 2010
- Both Steve Skilling and Marc Boulle will be in attendance,
this means that depending on numbers, after a warmup, the
group will be split into two groups with more formal training
in the form of a fartlek session available for the older juniors.
General Information on training
format:
Note: these sessions will be easy paced, with the emphasis
being on relaxed running, keeping form, technique and learning
how to train for specific distances and over varied terrain.
Mostly done on the Caledonian Track and the surrounding bush
tracks, includes fartlek (speedplay) sessions and/or easy
running through the bush tracks and around Logan Park. There
will also be game simulation adhancing running skills for
the younger juniors. All training will conform to the five
principles of training: specificity, overload, recovery, adaptation
and reversibility. These principles will be constantly explained
and emphasized. Also technique running - eg. how to start
in an 800m, running in lanes (first 100m) and what to do from
there. Running on bends, how and when to pass, track etiquette
and more. How to run efficiently up or down hills and step
training. Understanding interval and repetition training.
Tips on how to fit in a running schedule with your work, school
and other sports interests and how to use them to your advantage.
