Race One

Boys and Girls 12 and Under, 10 and Under Race, 1 x lap 1.75km course

There was some keen racing in these grades with the contestants running the longer full 1.75 km lap for the first time.
This included the tough hill section through the upper bush tracks.

Sebastian Sole was the winner in the Boys 12 race, with Reuben Knox 2nd and Jonty Horwell third.
Alice Cuthbert won the Girls 12 race. Erin Knox finished second with Mikayla Smith third.
Sam Cuthbert finished first in the Boys 10 grade. Bruce Knox was second and Hayden Smith third.
Emma Horwell won the G10 title.

Men and Women 16 & Under, 14 & Under, 2 x laps 1.75km course (approx. 3.6km)

The contestants in this grade had to tackle the upper hill track twice.

Andrew Koens showed everyone a clean pair of heels in winning this race finishing first in the M14 grade.
Claudia Sole ran well to finish second overall and first in the W14 grade. Erin Scott finished second in the W14 grade.
Samantha Smith won the W16 grade with Nicole Frew second.

Race Two

Open Women's 3.5 km Race, 2 x laps 1.75km course. Chingford Challenge section - 2 runners to count for team points

Kirsty Morris won the Leith Women's Cross Country title. Louisa Andrew finished second also being the first MW35 athlete finish.
Penny Roy of Otago University finished third overall.

Chingford Challenge - University was unable to field more than one runner in this race, so with two Leith runners contesting the number of runners to count was reduced to two.
Leith women won the Chingford Challenge section of this race by 4 points.

Open Men's 5.25 km Race, 3 x laps of 1.75km course (approx. 5.25km) - Chingford Challenge section - 6 runners to count for team points

Andrew Lonie comfortably won the Leith Cross Country Men's title. He also won the Master Men's 35 grade title. Jason Palmer was the first Senior Man to finish.
Neale McLanachan was second Senior Man across the line with Geoff Williamson third. Williamson also won the sealed handicap by seven seconds.

Alan Funnell finished second in the MM35 grade with Glen Ferguson third. Chris Sole won the MM50 title, with Brian Pascoe second and Graham Anderson third.

Chingford Challenge - Otago University only had two runners contesting in the Open Men's grade due to exams - however Leith had 6 runners to contest, so the points were worked out from 6 runners to count. The missing four runners from Varsity would incurr the maximum points penalty (see full results). Leith therefore won the Open Men's challenge by 82 points.

Leith therefore retains the Chingford Challenge by the combined Open Women's and Open Men's points difference of 86 points.

Thanks go to the University runners who managed to make it to this race despite the pressure of exams. This race may have to be re-sheduled for an earlier time of the year to accomodate the Varsity runners. Thanks also to the officials, timekeepers, people who laid out the course, the spectators and of course the runners themselves for a great day of cross country running at Chingford Park today.
