Leith Harriers organizes club/social runs throughout the year via our training sessions organised by Chris Sole – see our Training link for more on these.  Emails are also sent on Mondays to members reminding them of any updates on these sessions. During our Winter Harrier Season, we also have combined runs with other Athletics Otago affiliated clubs and are social in nature. See our Calendar or Upcoming Events for updates on these runs.

Jolly Jaunt Social Run, 1pm Sunday 12 July 2026

5 Matariki Street, Broad Bay

Jolly Jaunt Social Run, Sunday 12 July from 1pm hosted by Steve and Jocelyn Springthorpe

Thank you Jocelyn and Steve for organising a wonderful afternoon.

Everyone enjoyed this fanastic event. The weather came to the party too.  See the photo collage and map further below with photos from Gisela Sole

Jocelyn and Steve Springthorpe planned and executed a wonderful adventure, with food to finish, over some lesser-known Tracks from their beautiful home in Broad Bay. Jocelyn writes: “What a fantastic afternoon on Sunday, perfect conditions for exploring the hill behind Broad Bay. Seven “Jolly Jaunters”, Siobhan and Luke McKinlay, Armin Burgmeier, Donna Tumaru, Florence Reynolds, Claudia Sole and Sandy Weltan enjoyed the promised spectacular views along with unrivalled camaraderie. The day couldn’t have been better. There was even some hot tubbing! Thank you all for contributing to the feast afterwards. Thanks to Steve Springthorpe, Pete Murray and Lynne Kerr for marshalling and photographs, to Gisela Sole for photographs and walking up to meet the Jaunters, to Chris Sole for encouragement, and Glenda Norris for organizing the food for our return. We’re excited about the next Jaunt!”

Big Morning Run, 8am Sunday 12 October 2025

Hill City-University Athletics Club Rooms, 48 Logan Park Drive, Dunedin

At 8am on Sunday 12 October, Leith Harriers joins forces with our friends at Hill City – University Athletics to co-host a ‘Big Morning Run’.

This event is part of Hill City-University Athletic Club’s usual Sunday combined clubs run from their clubrooms at 8 am, as part of the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand’s Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) from 6-12 October 2025.
The Big Morning Run highlights great local clubs across New Zealand and shows how running and connection can boost mental health.

Your morning run fuels you, your coffee fuels connection. For those who are able, you may donate just $4 (less than a coffee) this Mental Health Awareness Week to get behind the kaupapa.

Every $4 you give allows the Mental Health Foundation to reach one more New Zealander who needs support, equipping them with tools to take care of their mental health and wellbeing. Visit the NZ website >> BIG MORNING RUN NZ

Big Morning Run, 8am Sunday 29 September 2024

Hill City-University Athletics Club Rooms, 43 Logan Park Drive, Dunedin

At 8am on Sunday 29 September, Leith joined forces with our friends at Hill City – University Athletics to co-host a ‘Big Morning Run’. This event was part of Hill City-University Athletic Club’s usual Sunday run from their clubrooms at 8 am, as part of the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand’s Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) from 23-29 September 2024.
The Big Morning Run highlighted great local clubs across New Zealand and showed how running and connection can boost mental health.
Despite a myriad of other events going on this weekend, we managed to attract 25 keen participants. After an introduction to the meaning of the run with the focus on the Mental Health Awareness Week, we all headed up the Big Easy for an hour’s run/walk and had refreshments at the club rooms afterwards. Thank you to all those who organised this event. We will have some photos here on Monday morning. For more info, see the website here: bigmorningrun.com
